Out for a Duck

At 5 am on a cold misty morning, cleaner Dave Owen of Northfield Street, Sawley, had a surprise when he opened the front door.  In the middle of the road were a pair of mallards. They quickly flew off in a flurry of feathers and left behind an egg!  Dave proudly showed his egg at work.  No, he didn’t eat the egg, he is hoping it will hatch in a friend’s incubator.  I note there is no flood warning currently on the River Trent at Sawley but local waterways seem to have quite high water levels and possibly the mallards had been displaced from their nest by the high waters.  Marion Bryce
